@ChaleneJohnson 's 30 Day Challenge!
I can't recommend enough the programs that Chalene has established. They've helped me get my life on track and in shape. Thanks to her direction I've accomplished things I never thought I'd do in a manner far more effiecient and enjoyable than I ever thought possible. I know many of you think of Chalene Johnson as the creator of Turbo Jam and TurboKick but she's so much more than that! Her program and techniques for goal setting and accomplishment have helped me:
- get on track to be more financially stable
- maintain and constantly improve my healthy lifestyle
- complete TurboKick and AFAA instructor certification
- start my own fitness business
- be more efficient in my daily life
and most importantly: do all of that with less stress and enjoy more every step of the way.
She really will change your life with her 30 day program! I started it in January and it's helped me see a clear path to everything I want to accomplish. So what's stopping you? The program is free. It's all online. All you have to do is commit to a few minutes each day to changing your life. We're all busy. No one has time for anything. I know. But Chalene's program helps you see that it's not about the amount of time you have - we all have the same 24 hours in a day - it's about how you spend each day and get the most of each minute.
So I implore you - if you're even the slightest bit curious about what her program entails - check out her 30 day challenge. She posts videos, tools, and the website even has a forum where you can talk to others and stay accountable. Need an accountability buddy? Let me know - I'd love to help you!

Resistance Bands workouts
The "easiest" way to burn more calories all day long is to have more muscle. I know many of us can't make it to the gym on a regular basis for a number of reasons but you can do a lot with resistance bands and the like. Hopefully with the ideas I've posted below, you can start incorporating some resistance band exercises into your daily workouts and start some strength training.
Don't have resistance bands? I love the sets I've gotten from Beachbody and highly recommend them. To order your set, visit http://tiny.cc/CoachG.
Ok let's get to it. I recommend picking a few upper body and a few lower body workouts each time. You should have a total of 8 exercises and do each exercise in 2 sets of 10-15 reps. Just make sure you jump rope or do some kind of warm up before your workout and finish with a gooooood stretch :-)
Upper body:
see http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/exercise_demos.asp?exercise_type=upper for demos of these and other exercises
Bicep curls (one of my faves!)
Chest press
Front raises
Lateral raises (another fave)
Tricep extensions (lifts on the Spark page)
Tricep rows
Lower body:
see http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/exercise_demos.asp?exercise_type=lower for demos of these and other exercises
Abduction
Adduction
Leg curls
Squats (looooove squats!)
Seated leg extensions (standing version is on this page as well!)
Single leg squats
Single leg hip flexon
Now I know most of these are listed as "beginner" exercises but if you keep increasing the strength of the resistance bands or shorten the band, it will in effect increase the difficulty of the exercise. Also, when possible, try doing these sitting on an exercise ball - having to balance will work your core!
My favorite combination of these exercises is:
Warm up / Cardio (typically TurboJam 20 minute)
Bicep curls
Lateral raises
Tricep extensions
Tricep rows
Abduction / Adduction
Leg curls
Seated leg extensions
Squats
Nice long stretch
Try mixing and matching! Can't wait to hear what works best for you!!

The real question
As I talk to more and more people about Beachbody, my workouts, Shakeology, and overall wellness I realize how much I love being a Beachbody coach. To be honest, I became a Beachbody coach is very different from why I love being a Beachbody coach.
Yes I've been active most all my life. Soccer, dance, marching band, gymnastics, cross country, track, and constantly being told to "go outside" on nice days (a great favor done by my parents to my siblings and me). Never really overweight but not the skinny girl either I made various vain "attempts" to watch what I ate as the typical self conscious teenager. In college I was always very active and avoided the freshman fifteen just by the nature of being in band and taking advantage of the salad bar and gyms on campus. It was never a conscious effort - just happened. Then I had surgery on my ankle and had to take a year off of running and virtually all physical activity as I relearned basic things like balance. I gained about 20 lbs and weighed over 170 through the rest of college and a year and a half after graduation. It bothered me and I tried to lose some weight but never made a well-educated, whole hearted effort. As my sister graduated from high school (weight at this point was over 175), I realized how fast time flies and I joined http://www.sparkpeople.com/ and started paying attention to the little habits I have that weren't helping me any healthier. I lost about 15 pounds and found it so very rewarding. I was taking control of my life and losing weight in a very healthy way. Good thing too because at my height, 170 put me near the upper end of a healthy weight. I wasn't overweight...yet. However, with the way I was going, "overweight" was in my very near future. Then there was the family history. I'll spare the details but there are plenty of weight related reasons for me to get that in check now while my metabolism is at its peak as opposed to try to undo years of habits I could improve now.
That's when I hit my plateu. I tried what felt like everything. I mixed up my calorie intakes, obsessed about tracking every bite of food. Did more weight lifting. Worked out in the morning. Switched it to evenings. Joined a new gym. Worked out twice a day. It was ridiculous. Seemed like I would never get under 160.
Then last fall I had a sick day that changed my life. We all know there's nothing good on daytime TV and as I don't have cable (one of my excuse busters and ways to save dough!) I had even fewer options for shows. Flipping channels I saw a commercial for Turbo Jam by Beachbody. Seemed like a good deal and a great way to bust the "I can't get to the gym today" excuse. If the DVDs are in my living room, I'd have no more excuses. It would be up to me to DECIDE to workout and do the right thing. The music was addicting and within the hour I had ordered my Turbo Jam. Once I started doing the workouts, I reactived my twitter account so I could talk to the creator of my new addiction: Chalene Johnson (chalenejohnson on twitter). I met a ton of Turbo Jam addicts and ended up going to a Beachbody Coach info meeting thanks to an invite from Chalene's sister, Jenelle Summers (turbosister on twitter). I heard all the great things that could come with being a coach but I'll be honest (just like I was with Jenelle that night) my main reason for becoming a coach was the savings I would get on Shakeology and other Beachbody products. Little did I know that the discounts would become the smallest benefit of being a coach.
Through twitter, I met so many amazing people whom I feel like I've known forever. I've been fortunate enough to meet several of these other wonderful coaches in person and others I email / text / twitter nearly daily. Not to mention that I quickly learned that as much as Chalene is a celebrity instructor, she didn't come by it by accident. She recommended books and daily reminds me (along with her thousands of adoring fans) that to-do lists and goal setting is the prime way to achieve success. I started 2010 with real goals thanks to books she recommended and have been en route of achieving them ever since. She's not the only God-send. My fellow Beachbody coaches are amazing. Beth, Kristy, and Jaime are my Turbo Sisters and we have an email string that just hasn't seemed to die. I send tweets back and forth with my Chicago girls Katie and Ashley on a regular basis. With everything going on lately, I don't know how I'd make it through without them. Ophie invited me to visit her TurboKick class in Indy and next thing I knew I wanted to teach classes in Fort Wayne. Well actually I wanted to go to classes here but after checking http://www.turbokick.com/ I didn't see any classes in the area so I figured I needed to learn how to teach. Thanks to the ladies I've mentioned so far and all of the other amazing Beachbody coaches I didn't name (sorry! This blog was already getting too long) my new drive is invigorating. I'm more productive at work, my personal life, my Beachbody business is starting gain a little drive, and its so exciting to hear how my own successes (big or small) are helping other people make changes.
So why did I become a Beachbody coach? Yeah it was for the discounts and opportunity to "maybe someday" make it a business. Why do I love being a Beachbody coach? Now that's the real question with an awesome answer. With this network, I've found more than fitness, I have wellness. I have amazing friends with the same kind of drive and determination. They understand the importance of a healthy and balanced lifestyle. They are helping me get through some of the toughest stuff in life. We laugh. We cry (rarely!). We support each other. And we get to work on our own businesses in the process. Who could ask for anything more?

Pictures of the progress - Turbo Jam version
Ok I promised before and after pictures and here they are. I have to say though...given that we've already determined that my body didn't give up any body fat to Turbo Jam, I knew these pictures weren't going to show a major difference...But here they are anyway showing the little bit of change. Can't wait for my TurboFire afters!!! :-)

TurboFire Day 1!!! Oh and my TurboJam wrap up!
OOOOOOOOOOOMG! TurboFire was everything I'd hoped....and more. Ok I know I know. I owe you a Turbo Jam wrap up but hear me out..literally...check out the vid below. But you have to read through the wrap up first.
Ok so those of you following along already know that my last week of Jam didn't go quite as I'd hoped. I was going to get in a full week and wear my bodybugg all week but I came home sick two days of my last planned week...needless to say, I couldn't workout. Never fear! I have enough data to wrap it up and move forward! According to my trusty bodybugg I burn about 2000 calories on the days I workout and that's with an average of a 30 minute Turbo Jam workout. We'll keep that and compare to TurboFire data which I'll collect next week - once I get a hang of the workouts and can give you a real measure! For the rest:
All are listed with before/after:
Weight: 157 lbs / 152 lbs
Body Fat: 27% / 27%
Waist: 30.375" / 30.25"
Hips: 39.5" / 39.0"
Thighs: 23.75" / 23"
Chest: 40" / 39.5"
Upper Arm: 11.375" / 11.125"
(total of 3.25" loss)
So overall not a huge change this time around. Now those of you reading, please don't think it doesn't work. The first time I did before and after measurements, in a month of Turbo Jam I saw this:
Weight: 161.2 lbs / 157 lbs
Body Fat: (didn't have calipers at before...sorry!)
Waist: 32" / 29"
Hips: 39.5" / 38"
Thighs: 23.5" / 22.5"
Chest: 38.5" / 37.5"
Upper Arm: 11.5" / 10.5"
....and I went from a size 10 to an 8 or 6. (total of a 9.5" loss!)
My guess is my body has gotten used to Turbo Jam. Its great for me now for maintenance but my body is at a new level and TurboFire couldn't have come at a better time. I'll do after pictures tomorrow morning!
Now to the TurboFire. I can't tell you how good it felt. Well actually I can! Video time! Hope you enjoyed the update! So pumped to do tomorrow's workout! Will you be joining me? :-)

Catching up!
Happy 4th everyone!! on 12seconds.tv
I can't believe its been a week since I last wrote here - sorry folks! Alright, let's catch up.
Last week was supposed to be my triumphant return to the last week of Turbo Jam. And then I went home sick on Monday. And Tuesday. And couldn't eat like normal until late Thursday. I'll spare you the details but needless to say, the workout plan failed to pan out. It wasn't without trying but in the end my body was telling me that I needed to knock it off and get some rest. (evidenced by the other 12 hour nap I took Tuesday night into Wednesday morning)
I'm feeling better...not quite 100% but definitely better. I have a feeling that after tackling my to-do list today and tomorrow at home (I'm at my parents' now) I'll feel less stressed and more focused. Besides all that, I have to feel better. Why? Because TURBOFIRE starts tomorrow. And besides all that, Turbo Kick training is on Sunday the 11th. One week from today! So here's the deal body...you've basically gotten two weeks off. I've slept, eaten better, done everything you've asked. Lookin' for a little return on investment this week and I promise it will be worth it!
I've been spending the weekend with my family...baseball and fireworks on Friday night, movie with my little sister yesterday, cookout last night, brunch this morning and then I'll be taking off. I've been keeping my phone nearby - keeping it charged is tough though since the poor thing struggles to find signal out here sometimes - to make sure everytime I think of something to-do over the next two days I can put it on my list. I know to some that doesn't seem like the thing to do during vacation / long weekend / holidays but I swear it helps keep me less stressed. Just because I add it to the list doesn't mean I have to do it right now. It means I take it off my mind and don't worry about remembering to get that little thing done later when I'm not spending important time with my family.
How's your holiday going? I hope you're enjoying your 4th, celebrating and having fun with family and friends!
The TurboFire starts tomorrow! Look for the schedule I'll be following (the basic plan for those who already have it!), my notes on my first workout, and general Fired up excitment all here. Are you joining me for TurboFire? Let me know!!
Thanks for stopping by! See you tomorrow!!

This weekend
The weekend started with two packages waiting for me - one of which was my Turbo Wear! I love the way it all fits and my cat loved the box...how he managed to fit in there, I don't know...but he is adorable, isn't he? Turbo Wear pictures to come later.
Saturday my sister came down to visit and it was great to have her here. We watched the heart breaking soccer game at Buffalo Wild Wings and then hit the store for a little retail therapy. I found a couple great pieces and got her to push her normal "outfit boundaries" some. Oh! I also found a new bed set and did a mini makeover on my room!
Saturday night we made our traditional brownies and watched "Invictus". I know the brownies aren't the healthiest but they are our tradition and it was a cheat day.... Any good food and good good movie!
Sunday I introduced her to Shakeology and she spent the morning reading the materials that came with her Turbo Jam package while drinking a Chocolate Peanut Butter Shakeology.
Took this before she tasted it...she had no idea how excited she really was.....
As we drank our Shakes we put in the "Get Fired Up" DVD from TurboFire and now she wants to get Turbo Jam down and order TurboFire next....love sharing my addictions :-)
Speaking of addicted...by the time we were done with the DVD she was hooked...sent her home with a couple scoops of Shakeology...
After she left (following a little more retail therapy at Kohl's) I went home to decompress and get my apartment back in order for the week. So far it has worked and I got up this morning and got my workout done! Drinking my Shake still here at work because its so thick and creamy... got a busy day ahead but I think I'll get to call into the Beachbody coaches' call today! Yay!
Hope you have a great Monday! How was your weekend?

Slight change in plans...
So if you go back to the Turbo Challenge schedule (http://gabriellah99.blogspot.com/2010/05/part-i-of-turbo-challenge.html) you'll see that this is supposed to be the last full week of Turbo Jam before starting TurboFire on the 1st. I'm afraid I have to make a slight change.
As much as I believe that exercise and healthy habits can help stress, we all fall victim to being overwhelmed sometimes...like I have this week. I promise I'm not completely off the wagon...just a little weak right now and pulling myself back up. I'll be active over the next couple days and will bounce back up with a full week of Turbo Jam starting Monday. Here's the new plan for next week:
NEW Last full week of Turbo Jam (wearing my bodybugg all week to get all calorie killing counts for comparison to the TurboFire afterburn):
Monday: Cardio Party
Tuesday: Turbo Sculpt and Ab Jam
Wednesday: Cardio Party
Thursday: Sand Volleyball
Friday: Cardio Party
Saturday: Turbo Kick Fan Volume 1 workout (cross training and prep for instructor cert!)
Sorry for the loss of this week. I'll be working this weekend on posting information about TurboFire including what came in the package, posting the plan I'll be following starting on the 6th of July for the TurboFire part of my Turbo Challenge.
If you want to join me, let me know. If you have other workout goals, let me know. If you just want to brainstorm wellness ideas, let me know that too :-) If you have suggestions, questions or comments...well you get the idea!
Thanks for stopping by!

I knew I was forgetting something...
When I realized this morning that this is my last full week of the Turbo Jam half of my Turbo Challenge, the biggest advantage of TurboFire is the afterburn effect that come from any HIIT (high intensity interval training) workout. Thanks to the elevated intensity, you can burn calories at a higher rate for 24 - 48 hours
(yes you read that right) after your workout. How awesome is that?!? Now I'm a numbers person.... Comes from the engineer in me I think. How am I going to prove this higher calorie burn? Bodybugg it! I'll wear my bodybugg all week this week to track my calorie burn while sticking to my Turbo Jam plan. I'll total up my calorie burn for the week and report it. Then a week into TurboFire. I'll do the same thing again. Can't wait to see the results!
Alright - that gets the workout stuff out of the way. :) The weekend was good. Got to spend good time with the family and celebrate both my brother's college graduation and father's day I loved hitting the beach with the fam to play catch and frisbee. I got some good color (yay!!) and had fun. Got home kinda late so I'm dragging today but I'll get back on it!
How did your weekend go? Did you get TurboFire? Let me know and we can learn it together!!

Summary of the Cleanse
Wow. That's the best I have to say...just wow...The cleanse has felt great and yielded great results. Here's the wrap up.
I lost 3 lbs in Day 1! I did still workout that morning but have never been so excited for a dinner salad in my life. I found near the sandwich meats grilled chicken chunks and those helped me prepare a good, fast, yummy salad (for the rules of the cleanse, check my earlier posts). Unlike most other cleanses I've done, I didn't feel jittery, shakey, sick to my stomach like usual. Instead, my digestive system felt better as a whole. I slept better. I knew I was doing something good for my body and I could feel it. Although it wasn't mainly about the number on the scale, it was great to see that 155 drop to 152 and feel so good doing it!
Day 2 was a little tougher. I didn't workout because I could already feel my energy levels so low. I tried doing the salad for lunch which helped but I was very very hungry when I got home. I cheated and did another small salad Tuesday night but kept it clean. Apparently it all worked because in addition to feeling good Wednesday morning, 152 dropped to a weight I don't remember seeing since high school: 150!!!
Day 3 was alright. By now I knew what to expect. I had my fruit, had some tea, felt better all day but was glad it was going to be done. Just had to stay strong. I followed the same format as Day 2...2 salads during the day. The scale didn't move this morning but I can honestly say I feel better, feel leaner, slept better - which was important because I haven't been sleeping well lately! - and am very very glad I did it and stuck with it.
I'm going to do this again in August. Haven't picked the days yet but I'll keep you posted. For now I'm going to focus on finishing the first half of the Turbo Challenge strong and reporting awesome results for Turbo Jam. I ordered my TurboFire last night and hope to have it in time to start my TurboFire challenge on July 1st. (see post "Coming soon to a blog near you" for challenge details) If you're interested in doing the Shakeology Cleanse with me in August (or the Turbo Challenge for that matter!) email me, tweet me, send me a Spark mail, go to the bottom of my blogspot blog and leave a voicemail, ... let me know you're interested. I can send you a couple Shakeology samples so you can try it out before you order your supply to do the challenge with me. Let me know! I'm more than happy to help! Shakeology Cleanse Kick Off
Good morning!
Sorry its been a few days since I last updated. Things are going well, I'm on track and I feel great!
I started my Shakeology cleanse today which is going to mean a slight change in the Turbo Challenge. For the next three days I am only going to do 20 minute Turbo Jam and then any cross training I can handle. The reason for this is that my calorie count is going to drop a bit and I want to focus on eating right. I'm starting the cleanse at 155 lbs. which is higher than last week's weigh in but to be expected as my "cheat day" of yesterday is still "in my system" so to speak. I'm excited to see how the cleanse goes for me. Here's the program:
Start: One cup green tea
Breakfast: Shakeology (with water and ice only – may add ½ piece fruit) {I'll be using almond milk in my shakes}
Snack: One piece fruit
Lunch: Shakeology (water and ice only) followed by one cup green tea
Snack: Shakeology (water and ice only) – can drink this after dinner instead
Dinner: Salad with greens, 3 servings of veggies, 4 ozs of grilled white meat or fish (or tofu, beans, of vegetarian) and 2 tablespoons low-fat salad dressing
NOTE: You can eat your salad for lunch instead of dinner if you prefer
DRINK LOTS OF WATER
NO DAIRY (ALMOND MILK/ RICE MILK are ok - it's up to you)
Possible negatives:
• Headaches/ light headedness
• Lack of energy
• Hunger
• No weight loss
So far I've heard several people say the cleanse went well and they felt great doing it. Here's to hoping I'll have the same results!! :-)
Thanks for stopping by! Come back tomorrow for a Day 1 cleanse summary! :-)

Wednesday progress and Turbo Challenge update
Hi everyone!
Alright so I've made some AWESOME progress but I'm going to make you read the rest of the update before I tell you ;-)
Last night I did a double... had to make up for missing Monday's workout. I ended up doing 80 minutes of Turbo Jam! 20 minute TJ then errands to break it up a lil...then 40 min Cardio Party and finished hard with a BURN from the 20 minute Ab Jam. I'm not sore today :( but I can feel I worked hard and it will definitely pay off. I love having workouts I love to do.
OH and 9 DAYS TIL TURBO FIRE!!!!!!!!!! Yeah I'm a lil pumped ;-)
So I mentioned great progress which I am celebrating this morning with some chocolate banana cheesecake. And no I'm not ruining my progress. Gotta love me some Shakeology! 318 calories, 55 g carbs, 4 g fat (WOW!), and 19 g protein. And 100% delish!
So for the results this week....Drumroll please!!!
6 lbs lost, 1.5% body fat gone! I'm down to 151 lbs and 25.5% body fat! I don't know the last time I saw my weight under 150 lbs so I'm totally anxious for next week!!!! Might even do progress pictures next week! :-) Keep an eye out!
How's that for a WooHooWednesday?
How's your week going?
Thanks for stopping by! :-)

Weekend Wrap up!
Alright so its been a few days...let's catch up!
Thursday our volleyball games were early and I got out of work late but I still got in a workout! Did my volleyball and even though we lost we had a great time! One of the girls brought Hustler t-shirts for the girls to wear to encourage team spirit. Only problem I have with the picture is how ridiculously tall I look compared to the other two girls on my team!!
Friday I got to spend time with an awesome group of girls! My Turbo / BeachBody girls met (in person for the first time for some of us) in Toledo for a TurboKick class with one of the best instructors we could ask for - Jenelle! Chalene Johnson's sister (Chalene Johnson created Turbo for those of you getting lost) kicked our butts in a PACKED Turbo Kick class and I don't know that I've ever had that much fun working out. Gotta love finding a workout you enjoy doing! Got to see Beth, put names with faces for Kristy and Jamie, and meet Jenelle's cousin Ashley while we all hung out before going to Jenelle's for an awesome BeachBody coaches meeting. I love being in a network of people who truely love fitness and want to be better. Being in a room of so many inspiring, driven people is such an amazing feeling!

Jamie, Me, Kristy, and Beth after class
Random girl who jumped in, Jamie, Beth, Jenelle, Kristy and Me in Turbo pose!
Jenelle and Ashley
After that I made a drive the drive from Toledo to South Bend to join my family for a 5K on Saturday morning. My sister and I wanted to run it at the same pace we'll run our 10K at the end of July but we didn't do too well at that. We ran it slow for a 5K but too fast for our 10K pace.Regardless we ran it all, felt good and had fun hanging out.
Baby sister and me after our race
After Daddy grilled some steaks and veggies, a late night drive and a long night's / morning's sleep, here I am! Its an off day and I need it! I'm sore, tired and had some catching up to do! I'm back on facebook for those who want to check things out there: www.facebook.com/GabriellaH99
Calorie burn count for activities:
Volleyball Thursday night for an hour: 562 calories
Turbo Kick Friday night for about 40 minutes: 470 calories
5K race Saturday for about 35 minutes: 446 calories
Hope you had a great weekend!

It may seem silly ....but it works for me!
I'm going to start my Turbo Challenge on Tuesday and I don't think any of this could have been more perfectly timed. The long holiday weekend, the start on the month on the day we start up again after the holiday weekend, my visit to Toledo to meet up with my fellow Beachbody coaches and see Jenelle (Chalene Johnson's sister), a 5K with my family on Saturday...none of it could be better timed. My favorite part of that list though is the long holiday weekend. Why? Because I can clean.
It may seem silly but what really works to get me to stick to a plan, be healthier and in the end, get in better shape, has always been to have a sparkling clean apartment. Normally I'm good at maintaining that but its gotten away from me a bit in the past weeks. So this weekend, my goal to help me meet my fitness goals has less to do with weights, running, biking and gym time, and more to do with the vacuum, washing machine, and the like. My goal is to get as much of this done today as possible. I really want to get as many vacation days as possible so I have a long to do list for today to tackle! Tomorrow is supposed to be the warmest sunshiniest day all weekend so I want to take advantage of the pool and sun tomorrow. Catch some rays. Relax. Swim a little. Should be awesome. Monday is supposed to come with scattered thunderstorms so I'll stay in and do computer work including POSTING MY TURBO JAM WORKOUT PLAN for the Jam half of the Turbo Challenge. I'll be sure to tweet the link too for those of you who catch these updates there.
So that's my plan for the weekend. If I seem a bit MIA for the next couple days, its because computer time isn't back in the plan between now and Monday.
I'm still excited to have you join me in the Turbo Challenge! Let me know if you're interested and we'll get you started :-)
Have a great weekend!

Coming to a blog near you!
So we're hearing all these AMAZING things about TurboFire and I have no doubt it will be everything we're hearing and more. To celebrate the new workout and test TurboFire myself, I'm going to do two 30 day Turbo challenges.
June: Turbo Jam for 30 days. 5 TJ workouts per week, 1 cross training day and 1 rest day. I'll keep track of my results, wear my bodybugg and report calories burned...its going to be awesome.
July: As if Turbo Jam isn't awesome enough, TurboFire is going to raise the bar! As soon as I get my workout (CAN'T WAIT!!!!) I'll do a similar program. 5 days a week of TurboFire, 1 cross training day and 1 rest day. I'll report the same things and see how TurboFire tears it UP! Can you tell I'm pumped?
Alright, if you want to join me it's really easy. There are links to Turbo Jam and TurboFire in the side and top bars of this blog respectively. Click the banners and check out the workouts! Let me know if you have any questions and we'll rock and roll from there! Can't wait to rock this!!

Crutch kicking week #2
Sorry! I fell asleep before I posted this last night. I'll make this relatively quick as I am on a business trip today but I wanted to make sure I busted some more excuses :-)
With travel season coming I know a lot of people are going to be spending days or weeks on the road and in hotels, cabins, etc. Even without summer vacations, many of us travel for work, to see family or just to get away for a few days. Don't let getting away mean you get away from the hard work you've been doing!!
Here's a list of ideas I've come up with - tried and true! - that could help kick the crutches that traveling can try to loan to us.
- New one I learned last night: some hotels have those pay-per-view channels. Check them! Last night in my hotel I saw that they have FREE fitness, toning and yoga videos (I was at a Courtyard Marriot). Since you're doing them in the privacy of your own room, it doesn't matter what you wear! (You know you always wanted to do yoga in your skivvies ;-) ). This option eliminates all excuses as you didn't need to pack anything special to make this happen.
- Resistance bands! They're small, they'll get through security in your carry on baggage, you can do a nearly infinite number of workouts with them and again, by using them in the privacy of your room, you don't need to waste precious baggage space when you're flying with sneakers, workout clothes, etc. Look for different resistance bands kits at www.beachbodycoach.com/gabriellah99 and find awesome resistance band workouts on http://www.sparkpeople.com/. Let me know if you need help navigating either site!
- Workout videos for many of the same reason as the resistance bands. They're small, can pass through security and when used on the laptop in your room, you don't need to find the space either to workout or pack those gym shoes.
- Turn it up! Last night, without even thinking about it, turned up some very TurboJam-esque music while driving for a couple hours. I found myself jamming out, doing seated crunches...practically dancing the whole drive. My abs and obliques are still sore this morning. It was an awesome workout, I burned calories at a time that would normally be a low cal-burn stretch and it was a blast. You can do this anywhere - if you're brave, in the seat on the airplane or for those to prefer to dance while truely no one is watching turn up the radio to a good "party music" station at your hotel room and rock it out.
What do you do to keep on track while traveling?

Bring it into focus
So I'm realizing this blog is severly lacking the same property I'm lacking in making my goals: f-o-c-u-s. I'm going to use this now to explore and share tips I've thought of while mapping my search for my "inner statue" but haven't quite implemented. Excuses are the worst enemy of anyone trying to achieve any goal but they seem to be even more prominent in the journey of health. I'm sending my statue on a crutch kicking spree.
Starting next Sunday I'll post a 12-sec vid (http://12seconds.tv/channel/gabika99) and blog attacking a common excuse and my way of kicking away that particular crutch. Got an excuse you can't beat or an excuse you've beaten with a simple tip? Feel free to share it! I'd love to hear your ideas.
Also, May is National Running Month and I'm celebrating by starting training for a 10K I'm running at the end of the month. I'll be mixing in Turbo Jam as my cross training. To really prove out my progress I've done all my measurements today and am going to share them here. I'll measure in weekly so you can all see how I'm doing and hopefully that'll inspire you to do the same! (Measurements also tracked on http://www.sparkpeople.com/)
Current measurements:
Weight: 158 lbs
Waist: 31.5"
Hips: 39.5"
Thigh: 23.25"
Upper Arm: 11.75"
Body Fat %: 27
